About
My name is Bill Weedman and I have been at Henson Robinson Company since 1980. I started estimating residential systems in the fall of 1982 after some classes at the University of Michigan.
In 1985 Henson Robinson Company purchased my first computer (IBM PC2) to assist in load calculations. I do a load calculation on 95% of all my jobs to make sure that what I propose is the correct size equipment for the home. Today’s software allows me to not only assess the size of the heating/cooling equipment, but to evaluate the duct system. When quoting new construction the software will size all the ducts so that there won’t be problems with areas that do not heat or cool well.
With other software I can give a homeowner an idea of the cost of operation on his existing equipment in comparison to new equipment to giving an idea on return of investment. A homeowner that has all of the facts can make a more informed decision on their heating/cooling system since it will be in the home for a long time and can be difficult to correct if there is a problem later.
In the spring of 2008 the Geothermal Alliance of Illinois was formed and I have been on the board of directors since its formation. I am co-chair on the committee for Training and Certification of geothermal installers as we write the test and provide testing for certification. I earned certification with the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) in January 2004.
An experienced person is one who has done something many times. A professional person is one who has done something correctly many times. The majority of contractors in the area do not do load calculations to properly size the equipment. Sizing equipment by square footage or ‘Rule of Thumb” does not take into consideration the construction of the home and possible changes to the home since the old equipment was installed. If a contractor is not providing you with a load calculation then you cannot be sure that the equipment is sized correctly for your application.
Continuing education is also important to Henson Robinson Company and I am routinely going to classes regarding new equipment and software so that I can keep up with the industry.
